G&G vacuum tank FRONTENAC RELATED

Chevrolet brothers offered these with their Frontenac OHV setups. Does anyone out there use one, and any tips? I can figure it out but why reinvent the wheel. Thanks for any help.

I have about five of these. They were used on my Gray ( not Gray Dort). I have a diagram around here for it somewhere when I find it I will post it here. They work on basically the same principle as a steward vacuum tank. The G&G are just a different shape.

Been running a G & G for 30+ years, driven thousands of miles with no problems. Mine is on our 1924 Chevrolet "workhorse" one ton truck. When I purchased the truck it had an electric fuel pump and I hate 'em. Other than they're being non authentic, it ran too rich. So, did my research and found that the truck originally had a G & G. Contacted some early Chevy guys and found one that looked like it was in good condition, disassembled it and it was clean and looked functional, so put it on and never looked back. One line to the intake manifold for vacuum and the other line coming from the gas tank, to feed the tank and carb. Good idea to have a fuel shut off between the vacuum tank and the carb. If you don't have the shut off and you don't drive it regularly, sitting for a month or more, the fuel might seep into the carb and you'll find that the next time you try to start it the vacuum tank will be dry and you'll have to refill it by hand through the little capped opening on the top of the tank. I'll try and ad a couple of pictures here. The first picture shows that it is truly a workhorse as I also use it to transport my car to the historic races over 100 miles from home. In the second picture you can see the line coming up from the intake manifold, The line coming from the gas tank to the top of the vacuum tank and the line going out the bottom to the carb. Oh, my gosh Ed…….. that copper line is likely to fail after 2001 miles. You should know better, and you best replace it! Thanks for the info, Marty and the pic, Ed. That will do the trick for me. And thanks David. They are pretty easy to find, perhaps after Ed’s endorsement, the value and scarcity will go up! T

I should let the guys who use these answer instead, but I believe that's a small tube that allows air to pass into the inner tank when it's in its "Delivery" mode. In other words, a vent that allows the fuel to dump from the inner tank to the outer tank once the inner tank becomes full. From there, it can then pass by gravity to the carb. Stewart tanks have the same thing.

If you’re not wedded to using a G&G, a Stewart tank will probably be more reliable. Chevrolet had a lot of warranty issues with G&G and went back to using Stewarts.

Thanks Jerry, that makes sense. I certainly thought it was some sort of valve. Chris, I’m married to it. I don’t like the size of the stewart , and Ed’s endorsement is good enough for me, AND I love the chev bros frontenac connection. Historic , interesting guys!
