How does a Youtube Video of Some Dufus Starting a Model T get 40,000 Views?

Post by CudaMan » Sun Jan 09, 2022 1:06 pm

Most of the videos that I post on my Youtube channel have anywhere from a dozen to a few hundred views. I have never had a desire to "monetize" any of them. I see that once a video gets above a certain number of views, Youtube starts sticking ads in front of it whether it is monetized or not.

Today, I took a look at the list of my videos and noticed that one of them has over 40,000 views! I wonder if some hacker has hijacked and monetized it for themselves to squeeze some money out of Youtube. I don't care one way or the other, since I never plan to monetize any of my videos anyway.

Has anyone else run into this?

If a person clicks on your video and the commercial starts playing, that counts as a "view" even if they back out of it.

I've never paid a lot of attention to the statistics, but after seeing this I took a look at the stuff on my channel. Most of my videos have under 1000 views, and many are under 100. The ones with thousands are mostly Model T stuff, but the top of the list is Sandblasting Rims at 209,000. Others with a lot are Restore Plate (108,000), Home Stretch (23,000), Spoke Press (46,000), Model T Rear Axle Removal (14,000), Horseshoe Hill (19,000), 1915 Model T Drive (20,00), and A Trip to Town in a Model T (47,000). The one that amazes me is 1886 Benz, with only 846 views. I would expect that one to have thousands of views.

I wonder at what point YouTube starts inflicting commercials. 1000 views? More?

We are in the process of starting a you tube channel (slow process). From what I understand, you tube can install ads before and after your video. But they do not install them "in" your videos. There is a threshold of number of views that trigger the start of ads. I'm unsure of the threshold. When people watch your channel and like your content, they can "like it , "ring the bell" "subscribe, or become a "patrons. So the more likes, bell rings, subscribers, or patrons you get the more visible you become. Everything except "patrons" just helps the channel grow. Now "patrons" is where it really starts to grow. To become a "patron" on someone's channel means signing up on a site like patrons.com and usually paying a minimum of 5.00 per month to view special content and support the people making the videos. We are patrons on 2 channels about overland camping in remote places. We know them, like their content, and just want to help them a little. We give 5.00 per month. If your Chanel becomes popular then there are companies that want to put a 6 second ad "in" your video. They pay a fee each time the ad is viewed. The more popular your channel becomes the more money the 6 second ads make you. Just think of Super Bowl ads for example. If you are really popular those ads can make a lot of money. Not to mention "sponsors. The more popular you become, the more items sponsors send you to try out and maybe give them a good review. One of the channels we watch, just received a new 2022 Jeep Gladiator to use and review for a time period of one year. They had a choice of the Gladiator, Ford Bronco, or a Tacoma TRD.

I suspect people just Google "cranking a model" with the hope they'll get porn? Instead, they got you starting your car. Imagine their disappointment..

When a commercial cuts into the middle of the 1812 finale I am not persuaded to buy the product. Quite the opposite. I wouldn't have the blasted thing, whatever it is, if they gave it to me.

Steve, I agree about the ads. They tend to just insert them with little concern about the content. The main reason we chose to be patrons on the overland camping sites is for contacts and info. As Patrons we have access to features not available to subscribers. In our case we use the maps and posted "epic campsites" they post in the patron only part of the channel. As far as overland camping goes, their channels are like mini versions of this forum. Information, knowledgeable answers to questions or problems, and help in a quick almost real time responses.

I find that my ability to get my T to start is inversely proportional to the number of people viewing. So the fact you got it started with 40k people watching tells me you did some video editing. Perhaps that is why you have your back to the camera;)

I wouldn’t complain. Ad your own adds and get some retirement money.

I just watched it, neat! It's weird to see the engine running with the stock Ford intake and exhaust ports exposed and non-functional. :)

My magnum opus 'The Manly Art of Wallpaper Hanging' is wildly unpopular with 329 views over 6 years. https://youtu.be/C_o9uBIj5n8 my children kid me about it frequently.

I have posted a few videos on YouTube over the years and some are watched and others are not. I am not a big producer so mine are not real professional but I like them and so do others. I have model T and other old car content from the 1909 touring to the story of the 32 year restoration of my 1925 Indiana Truck. I don't want ads and don't have the views even if I did want to make anything from them which I don't. My videos are just for fun. Anyone wanting to see them can go here. Subscribe if you want but if not that's cool too. My username is Indiana Trucks and if you click on it then you can see the rest of my videos.
