Herb the mouse trap is great.
I've have a homemade one using a 55-gallon drum with the trap door made out of plywood and I place candy on the trap door edge. So far, I've caught 21 children!

Ii have bought about a dozen of them this past year and had amazing success. I put used antifreeze in them and about a quarter inch of motor oil to prevent evaporation in outbuildings etc. They work as advertised and require little attention except for removal of dead critters from time to time.

There’s a home made version of this that works quite well and in the old tradition can be made with stuff laying around. Involves a can or cylinder that revolves freely on a wire stretched across the top of the bucket generously “loaded” with peanut butter and the same type wooden ramp. I used a smaller 2 gallon bucket with great success in the attic. Total cost: zip.
Forget everything you thought you knew.

P.S. stop feeding her catfood.
I have used the pop can on a wire. Works pretty good. Not so much in winter when the water gets hard.

RV antifreeze or windshield washer fluid works good and doesn't freeze, plus they don't rot so fast in the liquid. Then just put on a glove and pluck them out.

Growing up on the farm, we several times lifted a rat-infested feeder up with a tractor loader and killed the rats that poured out. The cats took one each and disappeared. The dogs would grab one by the head, shake it to break its neck, toss it, and go after another.
I use the bucket with a can on a wire. The bucket has my used antifreeze and stays liquid, preserving the critters. Just don't dispose of them where other critters can eat them as the sweet tasting antifreeze is poisonous.
