Goodbye, everybody. See ya later.

Post by Steve Jelf » Thu Mar 17, 2022 12:38 pm

My obsolete laptop's obsolete browsers won't open this website, so I won't be posting anything here while I'm in Chickasha. There will now be a brief pause for everyone to ask, "Who cares?" :D

Is there a way our mods can help a friend get back online with his old Mac computer?
I slide by on a Linux platform using antiquated browsers.

Steve,a local computer geek is taking old laptops, cleaning all the software off of them and installing a generic google chrome and it works good. I have a very old Compaq laptop and he put that system on it for 50 bucks and it does youtube, this site, all the browsing you want to.
No "word processing" and such though.Just think generic chrome book.
If you can't help em, don't hinder em'

Again, all he needs is a smartphone, decent mobile data, and of course almost every restaurant has free wifi. He'd be good to go. I'm using my phone to post this, and almost always do.

You know stubbornness will only get U so far and it’s not far at all. I’ve been using my Iphone7 for many years and brand new ones are available on e bay for well under $200. Best damn camera I’ve ever owned. It’s all he’d need. More power in that one small outdated phone than all the stuff he insists on playing with. He needs an upgrade.

I doubt if Steve’s MAC can be converted to the Chrome OS. However, if you have an old laptop, it’s a simple DIY project with the steps outlined here: https://www.pcworld.com/article/393375/ ... ebook.html . This also allows you use a two boot startup where you can select Chrome or Windows until you’re sure you want to switch.

That said, my wife and I just dropped off two Chromebooks to our grandkids as early birthday presents. They have to give theirs back to the school at semester end so we paid $200 each for two from Costco where they are currently on sale.

To stay on topic, that is how I spent my Chickasaw money. I will be bringing two Model A wheels home for my son and I met a founding member of the MARC where I am currently staying. So even though I didn’t get to Oklahoma, I enjoyed my vacation.
