Parking Brake Pawl Replacement
Do I need special tools to replace this? A blacksmith? Just hammer the pin flat?

Re: Parking Brake Pawl Replacement
I just replaced mine. I ground off the head of the rivet then drilled it out. I used a an bolt and lock nut rather than trying to re rivet.

Re: Parking Brake Pawl Replacement
Are the new ones made of hardened steel? I got some years ago that were made soft material so I mig welded the tip of mine and ground it sharp. If the rivet is not worn, that is a lot less work.

The pin is stepped. The diameter is greater within the pawl. The smaller end goes through the lever and the protruding end is easy to peen over. Not at all difficult to do with a hammer and a buck.

I tried at lunch to hammer/drive that pin out, but no luck. Does it need drilled out instead?

Just as John says, but maybe with more than just a "tap".speedytinc wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 2:44 pmGrind the peened end flush with the lever. Support & tap out with a pin punch.

It doesn't hurt to drill part way through the pin, to the depth of the handle That way you have a locator for the pin punch. If it still wont move, step up the drill size until it almost breaks out the side of the pin. The belt the pin punch on what remains in the pawl.
