Advance planning - Plano Texas

Post by A Whiteman » Sat Aug 05, 2023 5:25 am

Advance planning is in progress for a trip to Plano Texas to visit my newest grand daughter, she is expected in December and we hope to visit January or February 2024 for a few weeks.

As we are coming from New Zealand it's about now that I will need to book airfares.

So, as we have not fixed dates yet I was wondering if there may be a T event or rally of some type within a days drive (ok, maybe 2 days 😉) sometime around then?

Naturally I would be very interested in catching up with any forum members in the area too ( I think Steve Jelf is about 3 or 4 hours drive away?)

Looking forward to meeting anyone next year😀

Cheers, Adrian Whiteman

Push your trip into march and go to Chickasha swap meet.

Adrian, although Jan./Feb. may be the middle of a NZ summer - it’s the middle of our winter. Dress warm in north Texas and expect snow and ice. Just a few years ago it was 7* F here in Feb. we’d be honored to host y’all just south of Austin 👍

( I think Steve Jelf is about 3 or 4 hours drive away?)

It's more like 5 or 6 hours (you have to cross Oklahoma) depending on the status of perpetual road reconstruction around OKC.
George is right about the weather being cold, with the worst of it in February. But here in the the middle of the continent the temperature varies quite a bit as the air masses move north and south. When some arctic air comes down from Canada our overnight lows may flirt with 0º F overnight, with daytime highs below freezing. Then in a few days we may have some hot weather with lows around freezing and daytime highs around 45º F. However cold it may be, by February I'm ready for it all to be over. But I have gas heat in my shop, so come on up. If there happens to be a heat wave we can go for a Model T drive.

Thanks Steve. That sounds like a plan. I have worked through 2 Canadian winters so am hoping Texas may be a little warmer 😊 but still understand it will be a tad colder than NZ summer! (Ironically my daughter told us not to come mid Texas summer, she tells me I would not survive the heat
