Re: Wanted, original inside oil line with the large funnel
I thought this info would be useful in a general discussion also.
Be warned, used funnel tubes typically have nicks & dents that can be places for traveling crud to make a clog. The tubing is rolled & has a seam running the length. I have rebuilt many motors. I dont recall having an original funnel good enough to reuse. Not to say you couldnt remove the dents with some rod & body work.
In my mind, a new unit is cheap insurance. The repop units I have been getting are good.

Hi Keith,
I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume no one has them in stock? Johns correct many used are in pretty bad shape so a good one is not easy to part with.
Do you have the old small funnel oil line? If you do is it possible to fabricate a large funnel and braze it to the small one? You can even make it larger than the ford one but be sure to support it from two of the coil bolts so it will not vibrate. You can even install a screen to prevent clogging.
Craig.

Keith, I have an original inside oil line, but don't know if it has a large funnel or not. I don't have another to compare it to. It looks to be in nice shape.

That funnel is the earlier funnel Ford used till around 1923 or maybe a little earlier.
The later funnel has a longer “scoop” to catch a little more oil. The repos that are made are really pretty good. I used one in my 21 Touring rebuild.
Snyder’s has the later inside oli line

If a new funnel is cheap insurance, I would urge you to take out additional Insurance. Clean off the silver paint at the junction between the funnel and the tube, and make a better bronze weld attachment between the two components. Fortunately, I discovered the necessity for this before the engine was completely assembled.
