Vaporizer Air Intake Scoop

Post by richc » Sat Oct 08, 2022 6:31 pm

I’ve seen a few vaporizer carburetors that have a 90 deg scoop attacked to the air inlet, as shown in the photo below.

Looking at several vaporizer inlets I see some are made with a hole to attach this air scoop and others are not. In the photo below the lower pair are the Ford version, having the Ford script, one with the hole and one without. The upper pair I presume are the Holley versions of the vaporizer, due to lack of Ford script, and again they come with and without the hole to attach an air scoop.

Does anybody know the timing of the 90 deg air scoop? Were they on the early production and later dropped, or the other way around, or were they contemporaries throughout the production period?

I was told they were early production & determined unnecessary & dropped.
I have no supporting evidence.
