Model T videos.

Post by Gen3AntiqueAuto » Fri Oct 14, 2022 7:33 pm

IDK if anyone here is interested but I just shot a "barn find" video on bringing a 27 Fordor back from the dead after 10 years of gathering dust in a shed. It is being uploaded tonight and should go live Monday. How to restore a lead acid battery (instead of buying a new one) is in editing (for the same Model T) and I'll be filming the adjustment of the valves (this has a 28 chevy head conversion on it) soon.

Tim,

Thanks for the video, but that poor battery! Maybe worth having one of these in the toolkit?: https://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Deka/DW00254.html

Luke - somehow that didn't get filmed? I did clean them up eventually. I hope you subscribed because I resurrected the battery I pulled out - it's in editing right now. Saved myself IDK - they go for what $200 now?

Tim,

No, maybe that cleanup was in some of the film you lost - all I could see/hear was increasingly more forceful banging on the terminals!

It's also possible I missed that part because, unfortunately, I'm one of those people that can get quite queasy when watching a video in which the camera moves around a lot. Thus I sometimes have to skip sections of a clip, and may well have passed over the all-important terminal work in yours :-)

Not sure what you're doing to improve the battery? Have EDTA & a 'desulphator' here - somewhat mixed results IMV.

Luke.

I tried to up the image stabilizing for you Luke - I have it on in the camera but I added some in editing too - is this video easier on your stomach? I'll try to keep it in mind going forward too. Next up - better lighting....

Tim,

Apologies for the tardy reply, I've just now seen your comment.

I just had a quick look, it's better for me because there were some parts with the camera fixed, and it's probable that the image stabilisation has improved 'watchability' but unfortunately it doesn't take much camera movement to affect me so I still had to skip quite a bit, sorry.

Very much appreciate you following up; I may well be the only person with this issue, and it annoys me (I once built a full-size flight training device [simulator] to teach instrument flying and couldn't use it myself more than about 5mins at a time before I got sick!), but I guess we probably all have certain foibles we can't do much about...

Luke.

I will be keeping you in mind going forward. It's such a pain to work around the camera on a tripod but I agree - it does create a better video. Playing with the editing software, the more "stabil" I add the jerkier the video gets! In the "faux pro" stabil on makes the radiator cap jiggle and somehow the camera glued to the windshield pans sideways on corners - can't figure that one out... I hope you subscribed and were able to watch something on there. I'm working hard to put what I know on film for future generations. I wish I had filmed more of my grandfather, he knew it all and what I didn't learn or retain from him is now gone forever.
