TT model year 1926 or 1927?

Post by Nate22huckster » Wed Dec 14, 2022 1:09 pm

I have a model TT one ton with a serial number in the 140XXXXX range. Further internet searches show that it is a July 1926 build. It is a closed cab truck and some identifying features is it has the oval ignition switch and boot-scraper running boards. When I bought the truck I was told it was a 1927, at what point in the year did the model year change? Would this truck be considered a 1926 or 1927? Thanks in advance!

The engine is 1926. The truck may be. I don't know if it has a number on the frame under the floorboard like a car, but it's worth a look.

Thank you Steve, I should’ve mentioned that the frame is marked just like a 1926/7 passenger car would be and that the frame number does match the engine block. So, 1926 it is!

The concept of model years was not like it has come to be since
the days of the Model T. The whole idea ran contrary to Henry's
automobile philosophy of building simple, reliable, easy-to-work
-on cars to change it up every year, just for the sake of changing
it up. However, Henry DID have a keen sense of business, and if
bringing "fashion" into the game sold more cars, ... or in this case,
helped Ford retain market share, then he was (reluctantly) willing
to go along. The Improved Models were Henry's first act of loosening
his traditionally iron fist from the reins of company marketing strategy,
but it would take through the Model A years for Ford to completely
embrace the idea of model year changes to generate sales interest,
and by extension, make older cars "fashionably obsolete before their
time.

As for the TT trucks, they were even farther behind the curve than
the cars, and more-or-less were the same, except for minor details,
from 1924 to the end. My TT was built with running changes, such
as a 25 dash and instrument cluster, but 26-27 pedals. Build date is
Jan 26, so it clearly landed within the 26 production run, but as stated
before, that had little meaning with Fords then. At was just a truck,
and because it was built on "this day" it got built with "these parts"
that just happened to be in the bins THAT DAY.

As they say in Chugwater, ... no pictures, .. it never happened. Let's
see this wreck of yours. Here is mine:

1926 TT DUMP.jpg

Here it is, I got in 2017 and have been collecting parts for it since then. It had no bed, doors, fenders, hood, side lights. The dump bed was a lucky find that was only about 25 miles from home and a great price too! Still on the market for better doors though (the one in the picture is not as nice as it looks) and the better outer demountable rims for the rear 20" wheels, and a shift lever for a Chicago auxiliary transmission because mine is broken off. I am currently working on going through the process of getting a proper title for it and thus the year question.
