“Lawless”, a good Model T era movie

Post by jiminbartow » Sat Jan 14, 2023 7:39 pm

There is a good movie playing on the Vice channel called “Lawless” that is set in 1931 about three bootlegging brothers in Franklin, VA based on a true story. It has a lot of old, mostly Ford cars. In one scene they were delivering a Model T truckload of illegal white lightning when they ran out of gas. One of them got the bright idea of filling the tank with white lightning and, when they started the truck, it ran better and faster than they had on gasoline. If you can watch it I think you will like it. Jim Patrick

Your right Jim!
It is a really good movie set in era of A’s and T’s. The cars that are used really look correct. And especially the T’s. All the cars are drivers for the era and not over restored just so they can make a movie. The TT truck is really correct as far as the condition and how it’s used. If you want to see authenticity this is the movie to see. Absolutely no holds barred!
The name is “Lawless” and try to see it if your an old car enthusiast. The storyline will draw you in.

I looked on Vice but found nothing. Netfliix and Tubi has it but neither worked.
I hardly ever watch but I fiddle with it. We use Roku.
Since I lost my mind mind, I feel more liberated

Lawless and other movies show up from time to time on the various channels. Sundance, AMC, Vice, and etc. It’s been on before on some of the others. I saw it just by flipping channels the other night to find something to watch. Surpringly CMT has various movies too. Showtime sometimes has the older movies too.

TCM (Turner classic movies) is also a good source of 20’s and 30’s movies that have old cars.

“Lawless” came out in 2012. On Xfinity, “Vice“ is channel 116. Best way to find the movie is by channel surfing. As John says it has run on channels other than Vice. I have seen it twice this month on separate channels. Usually the movie runs at least one encore back to back, so if you find the movie after it started, you can watch what you missed on the next showing. It may also play several days during the same week. I hope you all can find it before it completes its run, but it will be back. Until then, you can search “Lawless Movie” and watch the preview and various entertaining excerpts on Youtube videos to get a feel of the movie. Jim Patrick

The TT truck has an engine with automatic transmission and hydraulic brakes from a Ford Ranger. So says the set mechanic/wrangler Gary Duncan

Looks like it has an entire Ranger rear end ! When I want to find an off-the-wall channel, I just Google it. We have DISH TV so I Google ‘DISH VICE channel’ and the magic Google machine told me “121”.

Just watched this movie and yes it does have a good many really neat old cars, most in their working clothes. However, please tell me no Model Ts were hurt in the making of this film!!!

Some Model A's got shot up quite a bit. That's where they drill a hole, put in a blasting squib and bondo over it and then paint match it.
