Ford Script on Period Non-Ford Spark Plugs

Post by namdc3 » Sat Jan 07, 2023 10:31 pm

Does anyone know the story on spark plugs with Ford scripts that aren’t Ford? I assume it was fairly frequent for companies to use it without permission and get sued. Many others used the Ford name without the script, and still others used a similar script that didn’t actually say Ford to try to simultaneously trick the human mind and skirt a lawsuit. The Champion X had a Ford script as an aftermarket item after T production ceased. I assume this was sanctioned, but does anyone know more about other plugs like those shown here?

I suspect few if any of these companies were pirate operations. A swarm of Ford lawyers would probably descend on violators and pick their bones clean. Licensing a company's name to other outfits continues today. An example is Firestone allowing use of its name on reproduction clincher tires.
The inevitable often happens.
