Timing Cover Alignment Tool for 1912

Post by Distagon2 » Fri Jan 06, 2023 9:43 am

I am planning to change out the front timing cover on my 1912 to allow use of a "standard' timer versus the setup with an integrated oil spout. That takes me to needing an alignment tool. I have the tool for the later cars but the 1912 cover is different and requires a larger alignment tool that works by aligning the outer edges where the timer itself rides with the camshaft. I borrowed one years ago from Ken Jones and I believe it was an original tool. I looked at what the vendors offer and they all appear to be for later cars. Anyone know where I can find one, or have one I can borrow?

One of the guys on here makes em and sells em. I got one but I forgot his name. It was either Dan Treace or Dan Hatch.

Anyone have contact info for Gene French. I have found emailing and messaging through this site doesn't seem to work for me.

Just curious as to why a later timer alignment tool wouldn’t work?

The reason the later alignment tool won't work is because the area around the camshaft seal is different on the early cars than the later ones. If I can get some pictures together it would show it clearly.

I ordered one from the ebay link I already posted. Doh! It appears that is Gene French.......I ultimately get in focus!
