Received my new "log tongs" today.

UPS dropped off my new-to-me log tongs today. I just need to find the right logs to lift with them, I do not think that will be a problem.

All in all, they are in very nice shape not bent out of shape, no cracks or damage to be seen anywhere. Maybe just a clean-up and a re-paint and then back to work for them. I know that these had a Z-tool number issued to them, I think it was a 24-Z number, but I do not remember. If anyone might know what the Z Number was that would be very much appreciated. I know that there was a spreadsheet around that someone had done a while back that listed a lot of the Factory tool numbers and the 3-Z and 5-Z numbers (along with some of the 16-Z and 24-Z numbers), but I can't seem to locate that anymore. If anyone has a copy of that they could post, that would also be appreciated.

The second link, "list no pics.pdf" is the one I was looking for, thank you. That list does have a listing for Motor Lifting Tongs (3-Z-628) but those are different from the one pictured above. The 3-Z-628 tongs are a 2-man version similar to 2-man timber or railroad lifting tongs. There are decent images of both of them in Service Equipment for Ford Agents (link posted below), with the one shown above having a measured drawing in the Service Equipment book. The tongs that I received today are the ones that you can see in a lot of original films of the assembly line.

I have seen a few different versions of these, with most all of them being of the forged-style shown above but some being more "factory-made" with a more "finished" look (raised lettering and numbering from the drop-forging process), like the one shown below. If the color of the one shown below is original I would think it was possibly made by K-D (Kay-Dee). I have a bunch of their Model A and V-8 tools and the color is identical as well as the numbering pattern:

One of my random "I'm bored. Hey I haven't searched for mis-labeled tools on Ebay in a while" moments. The hard part is trying to think like you don't actually know what it is and searching for it that way, how would you describe it? I have had pretty good luck on Ebay finding stuff that way. They came out of Saco, Maine and I think I got a screaming-deal and only $12 shipping. A definite win in my book. There is a KR Wilson armature stand on Ebay right now (been listed for a while now), but it has been cut and repurposed into something else though. Maybe someone would like to take a crack at fixing it?
