Was lost but now it's found

I posted some time ago about having to possibly pull the motor and hogshead to find the end of a magnetic tool that had come off while doing some exploration which in hindsight wasn't necessary to begin with. I won't get into that story. Not now, anyway. So a fellow club member came over on Sunday and immediately found the offending object and fished it out. I'd bought a borescope and because he knew what he was looking at--unlike me--he was able to recognize something that shouldn't be in there where it didn't belong. Happy day. If there's any lesson to be imparted here, it's that the cheap Harbor Freight flexible magnetic tool will unscrew itself if you give it half a chance and attach itself to the nearest metal object. I don't know what the cure is other than not to use that particular tool unless you have good access to any place it's probing. It was jammed between the flywheel and something else as far as I can tell--which caused the motor to be stuck. Looking forward to rebuilding the starter bendix and getting the car back together for the next adventure.

Try one of this style they are available from many other suppliers. A bore scope is worth its weight in gold.

Thanks. Yes, the borescope is a really nice tool and it didn't break the bank. I got the Depstech brand, not the cheapest model and not the most expensive. Somewhere in the middle but the price difference wasn't that great. Well under $100. They're also good for looking under the sofa, fridge, inside walls, etc.

I'll keep the magnetic pickup tool around for those times where I don't have to probe in hard-to-reach places. Might just glue the head on since I don't use the little light anyway..

My doctor friend and I used a proctoscope. It had the advantage of a retractable wire loop at the end, which we used to "lasso" a wayward nut. We did this for a mutual friend, who nearly cried when we extracted the nut from his transmission.

Jerry I hope that the scope won’t be put back in regular patient services ha, however those scopes are invaluable. Being on a first name basis with my gastroenterologist, because of my yearly colonoscopy, with the optional 20 foot garden hose, schedule post surgery from a few years back. Luckily he was able to find his SEC championship ring from the last procedure or at least that’s what it felt like.

John...a YEARLY colonoscopy?!? Wow. Sorry pal. Every 5 years is bad 'nuff, but the prep is really the worst part.
Aside from that...try having the ol' scope shoved up the "periscope" to check your bladder buddy! Now THAT'S a real trip!!

Tim this was my last year of annual scopes didn’t find anything but a very small polyp so now it will be every 3 years. As far as the other area of interest, been there and done that. That my friend was the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever had done. I’m not saying that it was but I’m almost sure they used bobbed wire. At least it felt like it every few hours when the urge presented ha.
