Thirteen stripes

Post by Rich P. Bingham » Thu Jan 19, 2023 9:47 pm

I think this photo has been posted before, but I ran across it today and thought it's especially interesting because it so clearly shows the pinstripes on this 1913 touring. I'm intrigued the hood appears to be a different color.

With the car is "Kootenai Brown", park ranger in the Waterton Lakes reserve. He died in 1916, but lived to see the reserve become a national park, contiguous with Montana's Glacier National Park.

So it appears to be a Canadian car (same size tires front and back). My guess is the hood has been replaced.

Neat photo!
Another clue to Canadian production is the horn bulb appears to be mounted on the steering column. Canadian cars had it there because the bulb and tube would be in the way of the opening door if mounted to the body. Don't always count on that one, however, I have seen a few photos of clearly US made 1913s with the horn bulb mounted on the steering column. Apparently some people had a preference for that.

It appears the lower half of the car is the same color as the hood. At least that’s what I see. Not sure why.

Maybe it was an unmarked park service car using whatever color scheme they chose.

That is so valuable to see the stripes as they were.
This shows the stripes a little clearer.

Thanks for the info on "Kootenai Brown". It's always fun to know more.

When did I do that?
