How vehicles and roads have changed! The Lincoln Highway was the first transcontinental road for automobiles in the United States. I live in Ames, and I drive on Lincoln Highway/US30 to near Nevada where we are restoring my 1927 coupe in my son's garage.

I don't understand how it was possible for this T to get thru this mud.

Pretty simple, narrow wheels, light weight, motor with good torque and the wheels cut through the mud to dry earth and keep going.
Add to that the fact you can rock the T back and forth between low and reverse quickly and it had to be really bad conditions to stop a T.

Driving in conditions with mud and ruts probably was the reason Scandinavia bands were selling like hotcakes!

Terrain like this is why they made the cars back then, so high off the ground… Even in such deep ruts, this T has not quite bottomed out and keeps going. Modern day cars would not be able to do what this T is doing. As the roads got better, the cars got lower. Jim Patrick

That might have been the precurser of self driving cars! They say the modern ones use the painted lines to keep the car going straight by using sensors. I know my modern car has a beep when I get out of my lane.

Thats funny Norman, my truck makes a loud noise if I start to leave my lane,or speed or not look directly at the road ahead or......
I think the noise comes from the passenger seat but I cant look over to see.

I rented a KIA a few years ago and it kept nudging me dangerously close to the center line. Took an hour with a 200 page owner's manual to turn that SOB off. Later, once we started the trip for which it was rented, we were buffeted by 50 MPH side winds and were being pushed around with a lot of correction in the steering wheel on my part. The dashboard display turned all dark, made a BING_BONG* sound, and showed a cup of coffee and asked "is it time for a break?"
