T Valve seat cutters?

Post by Chris Bamford » Thu Mar 02, 2023 10:37 am

A friend in our local club recently acquired these valve seat cutters which were described as a set specifically for Model T engines.

I don't know enough to say, does this seem correct?

Because of all the pilots, it's made for almost any engine.

Yes, and on further reflection, the different diameter cutters also speak to a wide range of workpieces. Thanks!

I haven't got a photo of mine, but if you find a valve seat cutter whose blades match the size of a Model T valve; have a fixed pilot; and a T handle on top, I think you can assume you have a genuine Model T valve cutter. I think mine even has Ford script and a 3 Z or 5 Z part number.

The large over cutter would work on any side valve motor. The two different undercutters would cater for most engines, as would the two 45 degree cutters. The various pilots would suit a range of valve guides. It would not be in the tool manufacturer,s interest to make a specific set for a single motor due to limitations in the size of the market. Of course, the millions of model T's disrupts that thought.

Hi!
T Valve seat cutters, also known as T-slot cutters, are a specific type of valve seat cutter that is designed to cut the T-shaped slots that hold the valve guides in place. These slots are critical for proper valve alignment and seating, and T-slot cutters allow for precise and accurate cutting of the necessary T-shaped slots.

T Valve seat cutters come in a variety of sizes and styles, and the right cutter will depend on the specific engine and valve configuration. They are typically used in conjunction with other valve seat cutting tools, including pilots, reamers, and counterbores, to ensure that the valve seats are properly shaped and finished for optimal engine performance.

Thanks for that thought Scott.
I was more than confused with that response.
