1916 with accessory hood?

Has anyone ever seen a 1916 with a hood and radiator configuration as pictured? The hood (nineteen louvers) sits on a low style radiator. Note where the hood sits on the cowl; not like originally on a '16. Modifications made somewhere along the line. Wondering if the hood was available as an aftermarket accessory back in the day. The most louvers shipped on a Model T from the factory was on the '26/27 T's, eighteen louvers. Again, this one has nineteen.

What a neat piece.
Today brass T's are the Bee's knees, So many are made into "15's"
Back in the black period brass was "old", not cool. So early T's were updated.
Neat to see a survivor of the period.

So maybe this is a late 16 when Ford was going into the 17 year? At first glance I was thinking this is a nice 17 and up. But looking at it closer maybe updated by an earlier owner?

Very nice condition that doesn’t show up very often!
It could be that another owner years ago wanted to “update” the car in the 20’s. After all it would give it the 17-22 era look.

I wonder how the rear hood clamp is configured to support its spring? It has necessarily been moved outboard to match the accessory hood.

I would not drill any holes in the frame, especially in that area. On the 26-27 cars, the rear hood latch is about 4" outboard of the frame rail.

The rear hood clamp is outboard of the frame from 1917 and anon. The hood shelf blocks support the spring, and a hole in the splash shield provides clearance.

This is a really nice '16 ! Just speculation, but I'd be willing to bet that accessory hood was originally paired with a radiator shroud that covered the original brass radiator. The next "update" of a stock Ford radiator shell and a Peerless honeycomb, the louvered hood doesn't appear to agree perfectly with the curve of the radiator shell - though it may just be the photo makes it appear so.

Vis-a-vis the discussion on engine splash pans, with 19 louvres, (count 'em!) this car should never overheat !!

Back in the black period brass was "old"...

... and oak furniture was painted. It was in the oak revival of the fifties and sixties that paint on a lot of old oak furniture was stripped and replaced with a clear finish.
