Cutting Mica on generator

Post by Paperman » Sat Mar 04, 2023 1:11 pm

I was able to use my mica cutter for my South Bend lathe. Owned it forever and was able to put it to good use.

Commutator looks good.... windings look well-done.

Nice! Here is the catalog cut from the 1928 South Bend full line catalog that came with my 13” lathe. Two styles of mica undercutters. The one I have been searching out for years is the the rod boring attachment. It would be easy enough to make a copy, but I would sure love an original.

I got this from a 95 year old gent who used this on Model T generators in the day. He kept it in pristine condition.
It is a wonderful tool that is easy to use and I am grateful.
