Ruckstell shift lock

Post by Jeepster47 » Tue May 23, 2023 5:07 pm

I am rebuilding a large drum ruckstell. My question is the shift lock is an early brass one. Are the parts internal interchangeable with the second generation cast ones ? My p113 shift clevis shows signs of wear and chips at the two lock notches.

Look at http://www.chaffinsgarage.com/ or https://www.modeltford.com/ (Langs) online catalogs. They both will have the parts breakdown of what fits what for most all the parts.
If you have the older shift lock, my suggestion would be to do the minimum repairs needed to use and look for the long nose style. If the clevis hole is worn, braze it up and redrill.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

The part you seek is the same.
The early brass body shifters take shorter mounting bolts. Dont use the felt washer, cup & spring.
Bottom cap has an adjustable screw to center the C piece into the shift lock sleeve as opposed to a freeze plug type cup.
The lever may be a bit taller & without the hole for the seal spring.
Theres all you dont need to know about interchangeable parts.

IMO the late shiftlock, (Correct for a late rux, like yours) Is a better unit & not prone to a neutral condition.

Thank you , my plan is to change over to the late style shift lock. Right now just wanting to get it as safe as possible with what I have .. until I get a late style p158c to swap out with the one I have.
