I was cleaning up some studs today and wondering where these 2 types were used. Both are 3/8 x 24 threads per inch.
The first one is 3 1/4 inches long and threaded 1/2 inch on one end and threaded 5/8 inch on the other.
The second one is just short of 2 11/16 and threaded 5/8 inch on one end and 1/2 inch on the other but it has a ridge around it at the end of the thread at that end which would cause it to stop at that point. It would stop it at that point and not bottom in the hole.
Usually the short end goes into the block or main body and the longest threaded end is for the nut. Neither style stud is drilled for a cotter key.
While cleaning up threads in castillated nuts I came accross a nut that is 3/8 x 24 tpi but the wrench size is 5/8.
Never know what you may find.
