That second taper front to rear on the spoke ends makes working on Canadian wheels a piece of cake. Once the outside plate is off, alternate spokes can be tapped off from behind for 1/8" or so, then the next six tapped up to them. Repeat this process until they are driven off the hub. Same process is used to rebuild the wheel. Absolutely no need for a spoke press, just a hammer and a block of hardwood to tap on. If any of the uSA wheel builders can do the taper, it would make things much easier for you fellows.
