I offered to re-rivet an otherwise very nice u-joint for a friend. Well... Got the 4 old rivets out. They're .266 diameter, 17/64". Does anyone know where to buy 17/64" dia. rivets? They probably need to be about 7/8" long.

I can't help but believe that a 1/4" rivet is the correct rivet that will swell up as it is set
MIL-R-47196 places max hole at .265 and honestly since this is not a battle ship, I think you're in the range

Snyder’s lists dia of rivets they sell in small quantity on their website.

I was finally able to use these rivets. Want to say thanks very much for sending them. They worked great! I don't have an acetylene torch, so I did them cold. Still, they expanded nicely and are very tight. A good rivet setting tool was also a big help.

Neat tool.
My grandfather manufactured plomb wrenches during the war.
He heated the metal in the same way running steel bar thru a strong magnet.

I have seen a similar tool used to loosen gasoline line fittings. It worked well but I don't have one. I hope I never again have to drop a gas tank.
