Right or wrong TT lights?

Post by Dallas Landers » Sat May 18, 2019 9:42 am

Placing tail lights. IfI put them outside the wood rails the licence plate will extend past the bed sides and the plate will be on the passenger side. Is this acceptable?
Is there a right or wrong on a TT with an aftermaket wood bed?

Nope. No right or wrong way on an aftermarket wood bed, in the US it’s almost constant to have a single taillight on the left side. Are you going to use the cup-like electric light or Ford O tail lamp? That would seem to dictate the bracketry you’d use.

The ford "O" is what I'm using.

Welll....then you’ll need that TT/pickup ‘hang down’ bracket the vendors sell to be used with that hard-to-find “butcher knife” combination tail lamp and license plate bracket. I used to have 2 but sold them. The concave on the taillamp bracket matches the convex of the Ford O taillamp. Some folks simply use a pre’19 T taillamp bracket on their TTs. It’ll work but doesn’t fit.

Those lamps seem to work just fine. They appear to be pre ‘19 T taillamps.

Dallas, that's pretty much the way I was going to do it. That license plate/taillight bracket was an aftermarket one that I stumbled across at a swap meet about 30 years or so ago. I've never seen another one like it. The one on the right side is a repro bracket that I lengthened using a piece from an old truck four speed floor shift. The taper is identical to the bracket. Dave
