1911-12 Fender Irons with hole (eyelet)

Post by got10carz » Mon Sep 18, 2023 2:36 pm

The thread about 1911-12 fore doors has me wondering about the front fender eyelet irons. How long were they used?
My late 11 has them, dash tag # 81401.
I also have the remains of another car tag # 92844 which has the hole.
I'm aware of the irons that has the hole filled in, but have only seen 1 set.

They were not used very long, and I doubt there's a definitive date on them. The top straps were moved to the windshield probly about mid 1912 model year, but some were apparently carried over but without the hold drilled, we all know how ol' Henry wasn't gonna waste a thing, let alone labor to drill out a hole that wasn't needed. Best info that I can offer anyway.

A car with date stamp on the rear spring of Dec '11 had them. I thought I read they were in production only three months. Possibly notes from Mc Calleys book.

85,xxx would make it a fairly early '12 then, my guess is they quit using them right about the turn of the year? We'll probly never really know 'til some show up on the forum! Would be neat to know, just the same.

and they are not that easy to reach to disconnect the strap clip either, especially when the radiator is warm!
