Model T Adjustable Wrench Question

Post by Mark Osterman » Tue Oct 03, 2023 8:49 pm

Bear with me and read the following carefully.

The “Ford Script” adjustable wrench came in different forms … and then there are post model T forms. I believe the typical wrench for model Ts had the Ford script stamped on the non moving upper jaw. I was given to believe that a wrench with the same stamping but with a squared boss on the bottom of the handle was for the 1926-27 oil plug on the rear axle. And finally … if the knurled adjustable moving jaw of the wrench was stamped Ford USA … and it had the squared boss on the bottom of the handle … it was for a model A or later.

Is this accurate?

Mark, I have found the earlier type to have the T part number cast into the other side of the stationary head of the tool. On our Canadian sourced cars there were different manufacturers, with these identified with details in the handle depression. I even found an English made version of these.'
The square end on the handle did go into A model production. I thought the Made in USA cast into the moveable jaw was a V8 thing.

Others may see this differently. Allan from down under.

Just got at Hershey today, $5 pile, correct late T wrench, for 26-27 with pipe plug drain. Script is tiny and on top jaw.

Model A version has script + made in USA on the large sliding jaw face.
