timken outer bearings thread issues

Post by Jwinters » Mon Oct 16, 2023 10:05 am

i bought new bearings and they seem difficult to thread on to the spindles.
i ran a chase nut on each side and cleaned up the spindles but the threads in the bearings are still tight.
i can get them on but would need a wrench to get them up the spindle.
i cant get them to run up by hand. the chase nuts do run up by hand.
before i go any further i was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the new timken bearings.
i did notice some slight differences in how the bearings look as opposed to the older ones i am replacing.
thanks for any advice

Call the vendor you purchased them from and explain the problem. Ask them to pick a couple outer bearings from their stock that are of the most recently received stock and ask if they can try them on some good used spindles. If those fit well, then send yours back for an exchange and tell them you want those particular bearings.

I have one like that I bought many years ago. I never resolved why but fought it on and off several times.
I have no answer.

When did I do that?

Having to use a wrench is okay, as long as you don't need any extreme force to do it.
