Well! Wha'd'yathinkofthis?

Post by Original Smith » Thu Nov 23, 2023 8:41 pm

Oh, little Ford, come here to me, And let me seat myself in thee. Of all the cars they call the best You're far ahead of all the rest! Thy little wheels run with a will, Thou carest naught about a hill; And as by the side stand the others bu'st You go by crying "EXCUST MY DUST!" So dear old Ford come here to me And let me ride safe home in thee.
This poem is from a Ford Sales Bulletin, July 22, 1916

The one that's ahead is a Model T. Don't know what the red one is. Too little of it is showing. The shape of the headlights doesn't look like a T.

The important fact is the smaller Model T is beating the bigger car up the hill!

The headlights on the red car suggest a Packard, but the radiator looks Rolls Royce. A few American makes has a similar radiator profile.

When I saw the pictures I could tell these were done by Norman Rockwell! Doing a search of T painting related subjects he used Henry Ford in several paintings concerning Model T’s.

The Model T is the star and Norman Rockwells way of doing them has to be the Co Star at the very least! Real Americana!

If you closely at the first T picture check out the beginnings of the fading paint on the T Runabout body! It has a slight touch of rust! Could it be Rockwell was painting the T as he actually saw them? Probably so! Interesting he did this! The other car is shiny and new looking. Rockwell always painted his subject material in a very real way. This one is no different.

The T must have had Ruckstell or other auxiliary transmission. It is hard to think it could out do a Packard on a hill. Maybe the Packard is actually passing it.
