Steve Jelf Facebook Page Update - 12/5/2023
From Steve's Facebook page this evening:
Dear Family & Friends of Steve.
This is Robert Parker - a relative of Steve's. I wanted to share some info with you about what Steve's future looks like.
I just got a call from the facility Steve's in informing me that they've found a different facility here in the Boise, Idaho area that will accept Steve. I fly out tomorrow, do some training on Thursday and he'll be flying out on Friday around 8:30 am.
I am now in possession of an old iMac of Steve's (which is how I got on his FB account) and also have access to his Model T Ford Club of America group and will post this there as well. This is a VERY old iMac that he last accessed in August but it should be familiar to Steve.
Once we've got him settled I intend to give him this computer and a newer portable that a friend has given him. He's also been given an iPad that I'll set up fully set up for him and once I see him.
Once I have access to his phone I *should* be able to get his email up and running again (he'd changed his password before his trip and as such it's not on this computer and I can't reset it without access to his phone). I may also have to give him a new address as his old one was bundled with his TV service which he clearly no longer needs. If that happens I'll make sure it gets posted here and on the Model T group.
If anyone wants to send a Christmas card feel free to contact me at robert.parker@me.com. I don't want to just post his address here for obvious reasons.
My hope is to reconnect him to all his friends online as I know he'd appreciate it and from what I'm seeing, y'all would too.
Thanks to all those who have visited Steve in person or over the phone. The situation isn't ideal but people like you make it better and it is very much appreciated.
Feel free to email me with any questions.
Robert Parker

Today's update (12/6/2023):
Robert here again...
I know he's been told about going to Idaho (and was rather looking forward to it) by several people several times. That said, I wasn't present and can't be more specific.
What is ALSO true is that he's had a traumatic brain injury (TBI). He's in better condition (and we all hope he even more-better!) but he is NOT 100% and frankly, probably never will be. Between that, his waning strength, dexterity, continence, other issues, etc it's very obvious to anyone that's spent any time with him that he'll never be able to live independently again. If you read his blog from before his last trip even HE was mentioning his problems with strength, getting up, etc.
His brother and other relatives are also very involved and supportive (one is actually meeting me in Chicago to say goodbye). I also received an email this AM from someone in the Idaho chapter of the Model T club that has already indicated he wants to have the club drive out to see & talk to Steve once he gets settled and conditions allow for it (and a bunch more have already visited him in Chicago).

Bummer. I was hoping for a more complete recovery. I guess we can only sit back and see what happens.

Wow, we think of Steve almost every day. Why Boise ID? Is there family there? It seems so far from his "old home." OTOH, it's lot closer to me, and I have friends in the area, so maybe I can visit sometime (after winter is over!!).
T'ake care,
David Dewey out in Callifunny.

Robert Parker is family. I believe Steve's mom was a Parker. I believe Steve lived in Parkerfield, KS. It is named after his family.

It must be very hard for a man as independent as Steve to be in this situation, hope he and his family can work out a way for him to live the rest of his life as free and comfortable as possible given his health.
He has plenty of friends and family who are rooting for him and i'm sure he's in the best company to make it work for him one way or the other !
Hope to see him back on here soon though !
Kudos for everyone who went out of their way to help or visit him, keep up the good work !
(Wish i could have done anything but its a couple of thousand miles too far to come visit)
