Stromberg OF on a 1927

Post by frank@s4sd.com » Thu Jan 04, 2024 12:42 pm

I bought a Stromberg OF, I have a Holly NH, there are 3 "connections" the chock, the gas and the mixture

How does the stromberg hand the mixture? I do not understand how to hook it up

Any Stromberg OF users out there, Can I see your controls and how you hooked them in??

Thanks

The choke uses a cable like the newer cars would have. (Well not quite the same but similar concept) The mixture control is not used, no need too. Stromberg's would be a set and forget type.

I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

I worked on this one that someone had soldered a part on to use the mixture control from inside, but it should be fine to set it and forget it like Mark said.

The Stromberg is a set-and-forget carburetor as stated. Come to think of it, so is an NH Holley in our climate. There were two types of choke cable used on the OF. Tim Morsher reproduced on type a little while back. Mine is a nicely designed pull knob with detents to set it at varios levels. It is clamped to the top of the steering column.
Any solid wire choke cable will do the same thing. The cable sleeve is clamped at the carb. You just need a firm mounting for the knob end of the cable.

I just set the mixture and left it alone. As for the choke, I made a new short wire and attached it to the same choke/mixture rod that I used to activate the choke from inside the car when I had an NH on it

Corey, Very interesting idea that makes use of the mixture control knob. I wonder how well the dedent ball spring survived the soldering heat? I have a similar idea but really it's not needed since the OF never needs adjustment once it's set. The only exception to this would be when a big change in elevation is made. The beauty of the OF is it's a set and forget it carb with exceptional performance.

I'm running two OF carbs. I used a regular choke cable with a knob that looked like the T control inside. Standard throttle control. Great carbs.
