Starter/Bendix question

Post by Vonau » Sat Jan 06, 2024 4:49 pm

I'm currently overhauling my two starters and Bendix. When assembling the first starter, I noticed that the Bendix could be moved sideways. I have to press the assemblies all the way towards the starter against the stop of the armature shaft so that the newly installed bronze bushing instead of the Babitt bearing is in full contact. Is that normal?

I installed a ball bearing on the brush side of the starter and eliminated the end play. Opposite, the rifle was still usable, but had a modern sealing ring installed.

Thanks for your opinion.
