1927 Roadster inside mirror offset from center

As I understand it, the rearview mirror was a dealer-installed option. Do we know if a jig was used to position the wiper and the mirror or did Ford recommend a certain position?

I ask this because my car has always had the rearview mirror holes offset to the driver's side, but I always used a clamp-on mirror which I placed in the center. After refurbishing the upper windshield frame I proudly installed the proper (albeit reproduction) rearview mirror and now the windshield wiper handle bangs into the mirror. Interestingly enough, during the work on the frame, a second windshield wiper hole appeared on the passenger side.

After checking pictures of similar cars for the mirror placement, they can be seen in the center, offset to the driver's side, and offset to the passenger's side.

I'm going to need to either reverse the upper windshield frame and use the new-found hole for the wiper so the mirror will be placed off-center towards the passenger side and further from the wiper handle or drill one new hole and move the mirror over 2 1/2" to a more centered position.

Before doing either, it would be interesting to know if the mirror was supposed to be off-center for some special reason. Any theories out there?

I have 2 26 open cars. One a Roadster and the other touring. both have the mirror in the center and the wiper to the left. Nothing bumps. I don't see how you could get a view directly behind you when the top is up unless the mirror was in the center.

The late '24 (Oct '24) {well technically the 1925 model year} and up to 1927 open car windshields have two holes for the accessory rear view mirror and one hole for the wiper located in the same places.

The wiper hole is approx. 12" in from the edge of the driver's upper windshield frame.

The pair of holes for the mirror are approx. the same distance, the farther hole for the mirror being about 12" from the wiper hole.

Dan and Chuck, my frame matches the dimensions you indicate, which means all I have to do is flip the upper windshield and it'll be right as rain (pun intended)

Norman, your cars got nicely centered mirrors, unlike mine which will be 2 1/2" off-center towards the passenger side, but at least the wiper handle won't hit it.

Who knows why someone drilled the additional hole ...
