Kingston 6 Ball Carburetor-1912 Anyone Have Experience with this Carb?

Post by Distagon2 » Sun Feb 04, 2024 4:41 pm

I am restoring a 1912 Runabout and happen to have two of the rare Kingston 6 Ball carbs. One is complete with a new float, the other is needing a new choke valve shaft and a new float to replace the old cork one. (I will be in search for someone who works on these old carbs-Russ Potter doesn't mess with them anymore, or so he tells me.) My question is, has anyone got any experience running this carb? I will try it at some point myself but thought I would toss this question out there. Also, does this carb use a stove (hot air pipe) like the older Kingstons and most Model T carbs?

I read in McCalley's book that this carb was eliminated early on the 1912 Model T and replaced with the Holley H-1. I am sure the H-1 was cheaper for Ford, as the Kingston appears far more complicated than the Holley H-1.

Anyway, your thoughts are welcome!

There was a good discussion in the past on earlier "ball" carbs. You might try a search for it.

Yes, I have searched and read quite a bit about the 4 Ball and 5 Ball, but nothing on this 6 ball carb. I am mostly curious if anyone has one of these carbs on their running car.

We run one on our 12 torpedo. Runs much like a 5 ball carb does but I think it starts better than the 5 ball does. There are a couple of variations of the six ball carb I have seen over the years. One has a bolt on the top of the body like an 11 Holley does.

Do you run it with a hot air pipe (stove)?

This may answer some questions about the 6-ball:

and this from Ford Fix;

When did I do that?
