In a previous thread, I was asked how we fitted child seats in my Tourer. My son and I took photos to show how.
These are the seats we used. They are US made, can also be used in aircraft, or ,with child strapped in, carried like a backpack. This angle iron bar and welded loops is screwed down to the back of the seat base frame. An engineer suggested we could also extend metal straps down to the frame rail, but if that was needed we would already be in deep trouble. When the seat squab is in place everything is hidden. These seats have ISO clips. No seat belts are required. The tether strap at the back of the seat goes down the back panel on the outside of the car to an anchor point on the spare tyre carrier. This fitting came from a modern car. Whilst this installation is not certified or engineered, it does give us peace of mind knowing the grand kids are securely seated and not at risk of falling out.

The fourth photo down shows the ISO clip fitting which holds the seat in place. There is no need to fit seatbelts with this system. I don't know where this bit of the story disappeared.

I think you need a new spare tire! Using it someday might be more of a danger to the kids than falling out.

Jerry, it is no longer there. I have deflated it to save the good Olympic tube from blowing out. These tubes hold air, unlike some modern stuff.

45 years ago I installed seat belts in the back seat for my children. Today I would never take my grandchildren on the road in my touring car. I do give them rides in the yard and in parking lots. These cars are death traps on wheels. It all depends your risk tolerance is.
