Auction prices always look good until the last 5 minutes. And, yest, buyers premium and shipping costs make buying a pig in a poke vehicle a real gamble. Auctions have turned into a real mine field in the past few years with the auction houses providing no recourse for fraud or mis representation. And FleaBay is not much better. With so many scammers using FB and CL, it is almost turning a complete circle in the vehicle purchasing world with swap meets, buying in person, and paying with cash like we all did before the internet. JMO

There is some good stuff there, but it would be taking a real chance with no real ability to inspect the stuff and having to arrange shipping and pay for it. I'm not that much of a gambler.

WOW ! STEVE, I'm wondering the same thing ! Did Bob recently pass away and no one here knew about it ? I only know of one Bob Shirley from Atlanta, Texas and it is very near Queen City, Texas. Bob's last post on the forum has been this year. he has bought parts from me. I'll research and post what I find.

I am sad to report that this was our friend, Robert Ray "Bob" Shirley, T Forum contributor and T owner and expert cabinet maker. Bob was born October 3, 1949 and left life in a Texarkana, Texas hospital on August 16, 2023, and we are just now finding out of his demise. No cause of death was found in this search, but his body was cremated and a memorial service was held, last year. R.I. P., Bob, you will be missed by many.

I really enjoy seeing these wonderfully aged cars. The photos are very nice and show what is there.
I'm not picking at them, but just pointing out some interesting items.
The '13 has a '15-'16 hood former in place. I've never seen that done. It would make the hood fit the radiator poorly.

I like the simplicity of the homemade pedal seal.

The hood of the '15 is mounted backwards. I haven't seen that one either.

I hope they do well with the auction and get these great cars to good owners.

Geez, If you think the 13 touring and the 15 roadster are rough, I wonder what you'd call the 26 touring and the 26 roadster? These were project cars of Bob's; not restored cars. I would love to have all his brass cars plus the coupe and another car, but I have no room for them and I'm 402 miles away, one way trip.

Just an observation Terry, as I'm partial to the '13s especially. It is sad this fella, whom I've never heard of, passed before progressing in his projects.

The 13 tourer hood would fit much better if it was put on the right way around! Like many T's there are bits to improve on. It may even have a late starter motor engine and trans going by the smooth pedals

If I didn’t have a Mercury I would be bidding on this one. It’s rough but the firewall and dashboard look very good, which is unusual. He had been asking 10k, I suspect it should go for 5-6k. That and another 20 grand and you’d have a nice car.

Bob was a close friend, i spoke with him at least every week including the day before he passed, He had just been released from the hospital, he had severe chronic copd , he relapsed. Bob was a veteran, a honest and decent person. Bob was private, read a lot, commented some & laughed often. What most of you don’t know about Bob is that he was a machinist, he poured babbitt, rebuilt Model T engines, straightened pans, rebuilt starters , generators and enjoyed our hobby. Most of those things he did free, you helped, you buy the parts. The complete model T’s being critiqued have rebuilt or refurbished engines including titles for most. As with some of us including me, we have multiple vehicles/ projects with parts separated in other areas. You’ll note if you go through the catalog you’ll find parts that go with some of the cars. Unfortunately it happens when things abruptly end. The last day we spoke he asked me to come up so he could show me where the good stuff was and help Shelia when the time came. I believe he knew that time was short but I didn’t. I believed he would get better & I was wrong. Unfortunately I was unable to honor that request because of my health at that time. I fear there will be way too many great deals. Such is life, such is death.

The auction company handling this auction is a local company; not one that I had ever heard of before, and not one that (I dare say) is experienced in handling an auction of antique cars and parts, with the intention of trying to get top dollar for the seller. Yes, the auction company has a website, but how many car people would ever find their website, being a relatively unknown auction company. Like I said in another post, there are going to be some real deals to be had for buyers, at the expense of the sellers, who should have gotten better service.

Look at lot 588 & 596. Bob built these and they work great. 588 if you take a close look you’ll know what it is and you won’t spend 2k on it. The centerline & peg holes were off the blueprints. He added that back piece to help in alignment. It works well. No you’re not going to do 500 alignments but you could do 499. I think that’s 2 inch steel but may be slightly less. If you can’t figure out what 596 is you don’t need it. This company has really no idea on antique vehicles or parts. The widow will take the hit.

The auction closed on the cars and they went for pretty much what they were worth although I thought the 13 and 15 touring cars went a little low. The Mercury went for 6550. Jeer Sherman had a body is worse condition at Bakersfield years ago. Since this included a set of wire wheels it was probably in the ballpark.

If anyone here bought the Mercury let me know. I’d be interested in following its restoration.

Don't forget the 10 percent buyers premium. So, if the Merc went for $6500 , then it was $7200 or so. Plus shipping, transport, or gas and lodging to go get it. I'm trying to search for an item that I know was in the 700 lots and it's not showing up and the current lots are all over the place, so I"m not understanding the sequence of lots on this on line auction. They never answered my shipping question, but sent me a reminder email that the auction has started.
