Steve Jelf Facebook Update

Post by CudaMan » Sun Feb 18, 2024 8:10 pm

Steve says on his Facebook page that his current plan is to fly home to Kansas this coming Friday, 2/23/2024.

Apparently he spent some time in a hospital in Lomita, California for treatment of a kidney infection, but that has cleared up.

Once he is settled back in in Kansas, he says he plans to do a full writeup on his accident and subsequent recovery. :)

Well I hope while he was at the hospital there he found somebody to take that tube out that went to his stomach that he want to get out for some time. When I saw him recently at out club meeting I told him he should stay here a bit longer since he has lots of care here. He didn't agree

There are times when we're our own worst enemy. That was a hell of a knock for a guy his age.

Dare I say this, but Steve has his OWN life to live, if he decides a risk is worth taking it's HIS decision... For (deleted) sakes, he's not much older than me, he got in a car wreck in a T, and EVERYONE wants to be his nanny.... he's here, breathing air, not dirt, and now EVERYIONE has an opine on how he needs to live his life????

I've been reading some of the comments, and they are somewhere between Helicopter Parents and Guardians... how will YOU like it when everyone tells YOU how you need to act if you had an accident, was recovering, getting your shit together, and a bunch of club members tols you you had to act like THEY wanted you to????

Think about it. If Steve wants to go home, then god bless him, GO HOME, brother, We should have NOTHING to say about your adult decisions. ESPECIALLY since you have a couple (OK, maybe more than that) years on me.

Your mind is firing on all 4, and not in that backwards chevy pattern, and YOU have to continue to live YOUR life as YOU see fit.
'"
Sorry, but this "Gotta be your protector" crud just makes this libertarian old fogie mad.... Tell ME how to live MY life?? Bye!

Thank GOD this club isn't like that. And if I buy that 26 Roadster and go run it in the M500 and get hurt, what, you going to tell me I can't because you know better than me???

Hate me or not, I'm sorry, but I've watched others run roughshod over others and deprive them ov their lifes joy. I REFUSE to do that. And if it means I croak at the wheel of a T (or the handlebars of on old bike) the so be it. MY choice, not YOURS.

Susanne! Don't you know that many of us, like myself, are medical experts? We watch all the doctor and hospital programs on TV!
Steve, It's your life. If you and your doctors think you are well enough to go home, then go. However, I would like you to stay till June so you can join me in the San Diego national tour. Yes, there are still some back roads in Southern California and most of our day tours will be on them.
Yes I have been in Kansas, and I couldn't tell when we left eastern Colorado through Kansas and Nebraska and Iowa which state we were in. Just corn fields and cattle almost everywhere. But good T roads and I know you have many friends who will check in on you and help wherever they are needed. Maybe you can get back to driving a Model T again.

:D :D :D :D :D :D (Sorry I couldn't resist)

My thought - the one that keeps going through my head - is if someone told ME how I HAD to behave if I went through the (deleted) Steve did, I would be RIGHTEOUSLY pissed because, shit, I was driving my Roadster and how DARE someone plow into me? WTF, you blind??? And then to go through the indignation of recovery???

So yeah. I aplolgize for being brunt, but yeah, STEVE needs to get back to HIS life and start putting HIS life back together. HE knows this, and honestly, were I in HIS shoes (but for the rgace of God go I) I would be chomping at the bit to get back to MY life.

I know it's tough. And I would certainly appreciate all the help my sisters and brothers in the T community would give me, no doubt. but when it comes to my decisions on how I live MY life, and the risks I take to live that life, especially coming off a fubar wreck like that, well, that's honestly MY decision.

I am very happy that Steve is on the mend and will return home soon. :D :D :D
How could these facts lead to any. contentions??? Sincere concerns are always welcome. If inappropriate, I'm sure Steve can speak for himself.

With all the heartfelt posts about Steve, maybe there should be a dedicated sub-section on the forum titled "Steve Jelf." That way all the information will be in one place.

"There's no place like home". Dorothy was anxious to get back to Kansas too. Best wishes Steve and a return to the "new" normal. "Follow the yellow brick road"

Just hoping that gastric tube is out or will be soon. I would hate to see it get infected. He will be so happy to be home with his dog, Shorty.

I talked with Steve this morning, he is heading for Kansas tomorrow. I’ll leave it to Steve to post updates on his medical condition but he is doing well and sounds very good. Best of luck to him on his return to Kansas.

What happened to the "let's rebuild his car for him" plan? Anything?

I talked with Steve on the phone a couple weeks ago. His plan was to get home in Feburary and get settled in with Shorty and fire up his desktop and get back on the forum. He asked if I had a way to load his T on a trailer when he comes to get it. He wants to get it home and put a plan together then. Im glad to hear he is right on track with his plans. I look forward to seeing his posts on a regular basis. I will help him anyway I can with his plans.
