I'm getting some parts ready to take to a swap meet in mid April. I have several 26-27 cowl mounted gas tanks in various conditions. I don't think any of them leak, either from rust out or around the outlet, but if one does have those issues, they are minor and repairable. What would a tank in that condition be worth at a meet? Another, has no issues but has been sealed with tank sealer; might have had a repair, previously. What's its value? Another has no issues at all; never sealed, and the most rust free tank I've had. What's its value? I may be asking for pricing opinions on other parts between now and mid April.

I don't know what price you should charge, however, I do not know of any source of reproduction tanks of that type, so they would be worth quite a bit, I would think. I have 2 which have been cleaned and sealed in two of my cars and if your sealer is not soluable in alcohol, should work fine. Mine do.

Even if they have a rusted through place or two they can be repaired. You could get a piece of sheet metal the same gauge and solder on as a patch. A perfectionist wouldn’t like that but when you’re looking for a good usable tank it would be worth it for some. Some T parts aren’t being reproduced and when you find one you need its worth it.

And one that's notoriously NOT reproduced is the 26-27 cowl tank. Occasionally one may be sold cheap at an auction, but except for that rare exception they tend to be high. With an ordinary oval or round tank costing about $350 new, I would expect one of these to go for a similar price to the right person.

So, Steve, $125.00 for a repaired tank or one needing minimal repairs, isn't asking too much?

I expect there are folks desperate to finish their26 or 27 who would be willing to spend $125. The catch is that you have to find them.

The finding works both ways. One person is looking for a tank. The other has a tank looking for a buyer. Try advertising on the forum or in the newsletter or Vintage Ford, or a swap meet.. Some day the fish will find the bait!.

Norm, I'm selecting thing things to take to a mid April swap meet. That's why I posed the question.

As Steve said - the "improved car" tanks are not being reproduced, and I think they would be more difficult to manufacture then the oval tanks, so considering the number of the late tanks that would likely sell, I doubt that they will be. If your tanks look to be repairable, you will probably not have any difficulty selling them.
