Were these bumpers produced and sold by Ford or were they an aftermarket item?

I found the bumper pictured at an estate sale this last weekend.

Those particular bumpers were Ford supplied, as options most likely added on at the dealerships. Interesting photo, especially the center medallion, with the black painted background. My father insisted that they were not painted. My '26 Fordor, purchased by my Grandfather and restored by my dad & I, did not have a painted medallion from new, (according to dad). This car is a Tudor, possibly a '27. Maybe medallions were painted in '27??

The brackets look like it is for the rear bumper.

I agree those look like 26-27 Ford accessory rear bumpers. Ford did not install any accessory at the factory but supplied them to the dealers for sale and installation. Ford bumpers were for the 26-27 Model T only. The improved Ford had the bumper mounting holes punched or drilled in the frame at the factory to allow easy installation at the dealer. The early bumpers had nickel plated clamps and late 1926 and after the clamps were painted black. The rear bumper brackets were different depending on body style. There were longer rear brackets for the coupe and runabout due to the spare tire angled out at the bottom, whereas the sedan and touring brackets were a few inches shorter due to the spare tire angled in at the bottom. USA rear bumpers have the 2 long bumper bars, the Canadian and export rear bumpers were short bumperettes that did not go across the spare tire.
