I see sadness, and I fear tragedy and great loss. Eight years ago Bob and I talked about me sorting and organizing it. Because of logistics and cost, it couldn't happen. Now I wish I had but I also had no idea of the sheer mass, intermixing, and scatter. This goes back several decades. Really, there is a limited number of valid categories here: Collectibles and memorabilia, useable, repairable or collectible Model T parts, good tools, good bolts and supplies and, unless I'm missing something, a lot of volume for the magnet or bin. Because of how this is grouped, it is not conducive to a sale that will protect the inventory of parts for longevity of the hobby. In fact, how it is grouped, creates a deterrent to bid. With the current cost of shipping, the parts should be sorted in categories that create incentive, as opposed to a common Auction where a nugget is in a bin of other items to help clear the room.
The future of the hobby likely will focus on keeping the existing cars alive and building Speedsters, with some new ones coming out. So with that in mind, this is the chassis parts inventory for the future. For the last twenty years, I have been hearing, "There's lots of parts to choose from." That's becoming no longer true.
In fact, the loss of this inventory WILL contribute to the to the demise of the hobby.
I hope the Auctioneer will heed the importance of this.

Ken what is so bad about this is same as when ModelT Haven auction.
Everyone will be crying about the scrap guy getting this stuff cause nobody bid on it.

After looking at the at the "about, what and how" of the auction and being on the west coast, didn't even bother to look at what is being sold. Didn't even see a suggestion of shipping.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Ken. I'm somewhat in the same position as far as having a surplus of parts but seeing where the hobby has been & where it's going, I'm attempting to liquidate some before it does end up at the scrapper - BUMMER ! This is just some of my parts - I have another carport with rear axles, crankcases & wheels !

It's sad but the fact that the auction is listed specifically as no shipping it will get very few bidders. It is way too far for me or anyone in my area to buy and pickup parts. While there is stuff. I am interested in I can not make the terms of the auction. This is a seller decision but if you want to sell more, faster, and at a higher price you have to go to the world audience. Local folks have usually already had their pick of the parts before it goes online. Yes, shipping is a pain in the a$$ but sometimes that is what you have to do.

Just like the real estate market its Location, Location, Location.
Not shipping parts and shipping costs makes many items unavailable to the majority of customers.
Sad, but I cant convince anyone in the area to drive 12 hours each way to pickup parts for me.

Will distance keep some people away? Sure. But when I went to the Edmiston sale in Nebraska I wasn't the only one from out of state. People I knew were there from Montana and Texas, and they weren't the only ones who crossed several states (and oceans) to get there. I don't expect Bob's sale will have as much early treasure as Homer's, but it will have a very good turnout.

I may be mistaken, but I believe it's limited to internet bidders only. No live auction. Someone please, correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, for people travelling any great distance, on-site preview is Sat., 3/29 & Tues., 4/1. The auction is on 4/1. The pick-up dates are Fri., 4/4, Sat. 4/5 & Mon. 4/7. So, let's say a guy comes from KS for the 3/29 preview. He bids & wins! He then has to hang around till maybe 4/7 to collect his prizes.

I mean no disrespect for Bob. I hope this auction does everything for him that he desires. I do not want, in any way, to detract from its success. I just don't see how things will work, logistically speaking.

I don't see what it matters if the auction is online or in person you would have to drive to the location either way. I think the advantage of the online auction is you don't have to make the trip if you didn't win.

That's true, and hopefully it's a "plus" that I hadn't considered. I guess I was thinking of those who will make the inspection visit, then later need to collect their items.

Bottom line is, if there's something you want, yer' gonna' find a way.

Whether on-line or not, the website provides enough details to decide on a bid. This eliminates unnecessary travel. There are about 950 lots, from single items (modern tools) to full shelving racks of items (in a few cases shelves included) to bid on. A 16% buyer fee isn't out of the ordinary for some auctions. Tax on sales in Loves Park Il is 8.75%. Credit/debit usage fee is 3.5%. The Auction House is 30minutes North of the auction location. They may accept cash payment there, don't know, but no checks or payments at pickup site.

I'm 2 hours away, been there many times, browsed around every inch of the place (all the buildings) and remember what was there & what is left. "Lots" of stuff is already gone. Bob' sold new inventory & tooling to BirdHaven two+years ago. I intend to bid on some items & borrow a pick-up if necessary.

1st the building is sold so I have a short time to empty it out
I called a dozen auctioneers and no one wanted to take it on, my health is shot, my wife passing has not been easy, I have no choice, Beloit Auction has my items on 5 different auctions from the 1926 touring to all the vintage toys and everything else I have
2 auctions have all ready closed, it is expensive to do this
it is about 10k just for them to start this plus 35% is what they get but I have no choice, I kept a few things that I will be listing on e bay but not much room to take 16k square feet to a 2 car garage, I know this sale has no shipping because that would be another huge expense to hire a crew for that, I am sorry the way this is ending but there are some very good deals hidden that photos do not show in the shelves, yes cash means no credit card fee so that might help
I have had a lot of calls wanting to know if I would crate and ship to them but I have no way to do this if someone wants to bid and can not pick it up they might want to see if someone close has the ability to do that, Don Lang called me and asked me this but I have no way to do this he saw a lot of NOS parts so I hope he found someone close to do this. all AI can say is this is the end for my shop hope someone close can get some great heals better than the scrappers, and start something also there is a bunch of complete generators on the shelf in one lot the did tot get photos, thank you to all, Bob

My hope is only this auction goes well for Bob, and that parts are saved from the scrap heap.

Beyond that, my heartfelt thanks to Bob. A good 80% of my TT was restored in the 80's with parts from Bob's. May the next chapter of your life provide much deserved joy & peace after your recent hardships.
