‘26 pickup box width
I’m “piecing together” a 1926 roadster pickup from parts. I’m planning on building a wood box. From what I can assume (we all know what happens when we assume) the exterior of the box (or distance between the inner fenders) should be in the vicinity of 43”. Anybody know the exact measurement?

Re: ‘26 pickup box width
I just measured the width of the underside of my factory steel bed and it is the same as the roadster body subframe 41 3/4".

I would align the rear fenders in their correct position, and then build the wooden box to suit. There is nothing like a custom fit to get things in the right place.

Scott, my subframe measures 41 3/4" at the rear 7" of the frame, then flares out slightly to 43" for the next 19-20", then back in again. At the wide part is where I'm guessing the fenders bolt up. From the attached pic the bed flares out at the same spot. Is your measurement of the bed at the thinner part of the bed or the distance at the part that flares out where the fender attaches, which is slightly wider?
By the way, this isn't my bed.... I found the picture on the net.

I measured it right at the rear of the roadster body subframe. I think the bed side is straight, just the mount flares out inside the fender. The fender mounts to that flare on the bed side and it is parallel to the subframe. I will take another look at it.
