Fordor Windshield
I am restoring a 26 Fordor and am at the point of installing the dash and windshield. Starting at the cowl, there is a thin strip of wood then the dash panel and then the windshield frame (glass installed). How is the windshield frame sealed to the top of the dash panel? Does that seal run up the sides of the WS frame to the break in the WS.

Re: Fordor Windshield
I just installed our windshield on a '26 coupe in the past month and was told that there is supposed to be a gap between the cowl and the dash for air ventilation, not filled in with wood. I do not know if the Fordor is different.

Re: Fordor Windshield
Thanks for your reply. The car was disassembled in Mass. in 1965 and storred in boxes which is how I got it. The wood spacer came with the car and has some holes that match those in the cowl so I think it must go in there. What I am mainly concerned with is filling the space between the top of the dash and the WS frame.

Re: Fordor Windshield
Because the 26-27 fordor body was a hold over from previous years and the windshield frame is completely different, I would be skeptical that coupe and tudor bodies have the same windshield structure. I have a 27 coupe and a 26 fordor, but the fordor was restored when I acquired it.

Re: Fordor Windshield
I have a '27 Fordor (made in Oct., '26) and it has a type of gasket between the dashboard and the bottom half of the windshield. You can't see it from the outside as the windshield trim covers that area. You can see it from the inside and it looks like rubber that runs between the dashboard and the bottom inside piece of wood trim. It resembles a thin piece of the fender welt seen of many 1930's cars. I replaced the windshield glass in this car many years ago and had this piece out at that time. Posting pictures here on the Forum is not my bag, but if you send me your email address I can send pics to you. Use the contact link through the Forum.
BTW, if you have the original door lock on the right front door of your car and don't have an original Ford Script key for it, I can help you with that also.

Re: Fordor Windshield
The March 1927 body book does not show that area for the 1926/27 4door bodies so can't be of any help.

I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Re: Fordor Windshield
I have a 26 fordoor that I have been working on and there was only the strip of wood that was mentioned. When I get the windshield reinstalled if I can get a piece of thin rubber to fit I will do that if nothing else but to dampen any potential rattles . Certainly can’t hurt anything
