I started repairing my generator and noticed some makers marks. Does anyone know who might have been inside this one before?

Re: Rebuilt Generator Makers Mark?
I believe the individual laminated plates making up the armature core were dipped in shellac or varnish prior to assembly to electrically insulate them from one another. If the armature drags on the field pieces, it tends to defeat this insulation. An armature in this condition will still work, but it will be less efficient due to "eddy currents" flowing in the armature core.

How less efficient? It’s been testing fine on a growler.

I don't know how much effect it would have, and I don't know if a growler test would show. There is a reason why manufacturers went to the trouble and expense of laminating motor and generator and transformer cores, and shorting the laminations defeats the purpose.

Did Ford branches rebuild generators on an exchange basis?

Re: Rebuilt Generator Makers Mark?
Since it is originally a rebuilt starter & you are in the process of rebuilding it... can you tell if the marks were there necessitating the original rebuild. What was the cause for you to do a rebuild?
The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.
