I acquired a 1914 Touring a few days ago and I am trying to determine if the body was built by Herbert or Hayes. I have done a lot of encyclopedia/google research and Hap Tucker has an excellent post dated May 8, 2011 about this subject but no conclusive way to determine the difference between these two body suppliers. So I thought I would post the question here again to see if there is any new collective wisdom on this matter.
The Touring is an August 22,1914 car with an engine casting date of 8-6-14. On the front seat frame there is a body date, H-7-14 and a body number of 175789. On the front heel panel there is an H embossed at the top of the panel. I also own a Beaudett 14 Touring and of note between the two is the configuration of the rear seat toe kick. The "H" car has a large curving metal panel that extends well into the front seat gas tank area. The Beaudett panel is small and flat with a large open gap between it and the gas tank. Attached are some pics of the car. Thanks in advance for any information.
1914 Touring-Herbert or Hayes body?
