Akuret oil gauge

Are the Akuret oil gauge reproductions being made any more? Hard to find any information on them.

I've checked several times over the last 3 years or so with Texas T Parts for the availability of the Akuret gauge. They show it in their catalog for $45.50. So, I just phoned them again to see if they have them. I got the usual answer " we're waiting for the material to manufacture them".......it's been years! I'd like to get one too.

Gentlemen I would love to sell you each a Akuret oil level gauge. I have had a one thousand foot coil of the dip stick material on order, I have paid a down payment of half the cost of the coil that was 58 months ago( yes I keep track). We have all the castings tubes caps ETC for the Akuret oil level gauge, just no dip stick material. Covid changed a lot of business, businesses and peoples lives. We have had a large number of suppliers that have gone completely out of business.

How about making the castings available? Maybe a dipstick from something else could be put in?

Mr. Devine - nice to see you on the forum. The straight "dope" goes a long way towards stamping out the rumors that circulate in the hobby. As you probably hear on a daily basis, people are interested in many of your products that for one reason or another are currently not produced. Speaking for myself, by knowing the facts I can deal with the reality.

Offer the option of a round piece of drill rod. That's how I make them.

I spit my Coke out thinking of walking into a junk yard and saying, " I want to buy all your dipsticks from any cars."

I have two original Acuret lipsticks. Both have .160" round rods for the dip stick.
The brass knob is pinned to the stick, and the levels are stamped into flats made in the dipstick. They should not be hard to replicate.

I'd be willing to buy a kit of all the parts less the actual dipstick, especially if dimensions for the dipstick markings were included. It seems like it wouldn't be too hard to fabricate something. In my case, it would be for a '26 touring.

Neither of mine have the lettering on the knob. Both have Akuret cast in the elbow at the pan. Both have round dip rods rather than the flat flexible stuff. The flat dip material would be much easier to make, but if you cant get it.....? There is an alternative.

When I refitted the one to my newly restored roadster, I carefully mapped the position of the hole onto the new splash shield, to no avail. In trying to line up the pipe to screw it into the elbow in the pan, I could not make the threads line up. I broke the elbow trying to bend it to make the connection.
Perhaps the thread in the pan was at a little different angle.

FWIW I have mine coming thru the floor board. Knob just above the board.
I didnt want to mutilate an original splash apron.

That would alter the levels on the dipstick a bit John, but nothing that could not be taken into account. Duncan and Fraser offered the Acuret dipstick in their suit of accessory options. My roadster was fitted with one, so I had no compunctions about re-fitting it. I solved the compromised angle at the bottom by fitting two right angled unions to the pan. This allows adjustment both up and down and fore and aft.
