Coil box question.
What year was the metal strip that goes from front to back in the metal coil box between the second and third coils? I have two boxes one with the slot for the metal strip and one with out. Trying to identify the year of issue

Re: Coil box question.
The center strip was added about 1918.
If the mounting holes are round the coil box is 1915-1916.
Square holes are 1917-1922.

Re: Coil box question.
It would be interesting to see if anyone can turn up a coilbox with front mounted switch and the slot for the division rod. Deleting the switch, and the resultant greater flexing of the front panel may be what led to the introduction of the centre division piece.

Allan,
The coil box on my non-starter 1919 has the switch on front and the center support.

Re: Coil box question.
Haven't seen a switch face coil box with the slot for the reinforcement strip. The non-elec 1919 and later would have used the dash mount switch.
The replacement wood kits have the slot, but the metal boxes I seen, with holes for the box mount switch don't have a matching slot in line with the wood slot.

Eating crow, not too tasty at all

Here is a 1918 box with steel face switch and sure enough has the reinforcement strip from front to back wood. Was searching my old Chickasha photo files just ran across this one , oops
