fore and aft slack

On a Model T Generator , how much fore and aft slack is allowable in a 26-27 Model T generator? The gear seems to be tight on the shaft and the generator works normally, but I can move the shaft back and forth about 3/32".

Minimal to none.
There are spring steel bearing tensioner spacers available to go under the rear bearing to take away that slop.
You can also drop in an extra generator felt seal in under the bearing that will take out the play.
