Certainly a good guess. Old John Deere tractors were started by using the flywheel rim as a crank. I believe they had finger holds cast into the inner flywheel rim, like a steering wheel... or like that starter.

The starter above is a Stewart compressed air starter. The air air storage tank is visible under the car.

So a little more digging answered my next question as to pump method. VERY cool, certainly better than a belt driven pump! A starter AND on board compressed air...what a thing to have in the day.

My favorite is the 8th from the bottom 1913 cutoff touring hauling milk. Sure looks very ‘used’. I hope it’s paid for. But the photo reveals fonts were indeed lost ‘back in the day’. Reminder: tighten the font thumb nut before this season’s tours….
