PERTY CHEEP FIX STEVE, HOW LONG DID IT LAST? FOR A COUPLE CENTS IT'L KEEP YOU GOING A FEW HUNDRED MILES. A NEWER CENT WOULD NOT LAST ANY TIME.

Cents after 1982 are 97.5% zinc. Too soft. Before 1982, 95% copper. Even that will wear out in a couple thousand miles.
The inevitable often happens.
