Hello all during rebuild of the gearbox i discovered the gear casing is cracked at the pin of the triple gear, does someone tried to repair this or does someone has one used for sale and eventually also a set of triple gears

Hi Garard,

I looked into this for my Model S and found a company who did a process called lock stitching. They said it was possible to repair the case, but it was expensive. At the time Floyd was producing new cases for the NRS and I bought one of his cases as the cost of repair was almost as much as a new one. I don't know what the status is of the molds for the many parts Floyd was making, but perhaps someone has a case that they would part with. If you don't find a good case email me and I will dig out the contact information for the lock stitch process.

Jim

Mine had some cracks as well. I took it to a welding shop that was located across the street from the former Ford Highland Park Plant, (seemed fitting). I handed it to the guy and said, "This is from a 1907 Ford Model N." He snapped back and said he knew what the hell it was. I should have known that he might, the transmission drum was about 96 years old at the time and the welder was about 93. He brazed the cracks and did a beautiful job. One crack was across the triple gear hole and through the small hole for the triple gear retaining pin. He placed a carbon rod in the retaining pin hole, brazed the crack, then drilled out the carbon, leaving the pin hole intact.

All of this long story to say that it's likely possible to have it successfully brazed, but by a very trusted source.

What also comes to mind is a conversation with Dave Nolting, about an acquaintance of his that was making some new NRS drums. You may want to speak with Dave about that to see if his contact has anything ready to sell.
